December Minutes

Vinton Public Library Meeting – December 12, 2018

The meeting was called to order at 5:00 p.m.

Those present were:  Brent Patterson,  Jeff Peterson, Tina Nelson, Deb Rundlett, Matt Salger, Jeff Mangold and Lori Smith.  Also present was Virginia Holsten.

Absent: Kim Johnson and Eric Upmeyer

Minutes of the November meeting were approved.  Motion by Nelson, 2nd by Salger.

Treasurer’s report was approved. Motion by Nelson, 2nd by Salger. 

Correspondence:  Thank you note from Morris Higgins was reviewed.

Old Business –

The tree will remain outside at this time.  No response has been received from our request for guidance or information.

New Business –

2019-2020 Budget is due December 17, 2018.  Budget request approved.  Motion by Salger, 2nd by Rundlett.

Request to close the library on December 26, 2018.  Motion by Nelson, 2nd by Rundlett.

Discussed installing cameras in the basement to monitor the patrons when library staff are not in the area.  Motion by Peterson, 2nd by Nelson to obtain quotes.

Reviewed quote from Matt Phippen & Jim Mayhew in reference to the 2nd annual Craft Beer event.  Discussion was tabled until January, 2019 meeting in order to obtain answers to some of our questions.  Special meeting outside of regular board meeting may be scheduled for January or February in order to meet with Matt & Jim.

 

Director’s Report –

Virginia reported that the library received a little touch-up painting to areas that had been scratched due to the carpet cleaning.    

Gingerbread contest was a success and included 14 entries this year.  Entries showed improvement over last year.

November Minutes

Vinton Public Library Meeting – November 14, 2018

The meeting was called to order at 5:00 p.m.

Those present were:  Brent Patterson,  Jeff Peterson, Kim Johnson, Tina Nelson, Eric Upmeyer, Deb Rundlett, Matt Salger and Lori Smith.  Also present was Virginia Holsten.

Absent: Jeff Mangold

Minutes of the October meeting were approved.  Motion by Salger, 2nd by Nelson.

Treasurer’s report was approved. Motion by Salger, 2nd by Johnson. 

Correspondence:  None

Old Business –

Brian Parr & Jeff Schadle will be working on a plan to anchor the tree indoors.

We had a nice group attend the Duffy Hudson presentation of Houdini.

McDowell’s prepared quote to install blinds in the board room – Dark grey, vertical cordless.  Motion by Salger, 2nd by Johnson.

New Business –

We have scheduled Duffy Hudson for March, 2019 to present George Burns in partnership with Windsor Manor.  He will present Einstein in the Fall of 2019.

 

Director’s Report –

Virginia reported that the library is hosting the gingerbread contest again this year.    

The library has received three boxes of Millie Armstrong Kalish’s papers, certificates and awards from her son, Doug Kalish.  Millie wrote the book – Little Heathens.  There will be two more boxes yet to come.  This is a nice collection.

October Minutes

Vinton Public Library Meeting – October 10, 2018

The meeting was called to order at 5:00 p.m.

Those present were:  Kim Johnson, Tina Nelson, Eric Upmeyer, Deb Rundlett, Matt Salger and Lori Smith.  Also present was Virginia Holsten.

Excused:  Brent Patterson

Absent: Jeff Mangold and Jeff Peterson

Minutes of the September meeting were approved.  Motion by Salger, 2nd by Johnson.

Treasurer’s report was approved. Motion by Salger, 2nd by Johnson.  Reviewed quarterly report.  Discussed option of reviewing this report monthly versus quarterly.  Report will continue to be reviewed quarterly.  Motion by Rundlett, 2nd by Salger.

Correspondence:  None

Old Business –

Virginia attended a Library Financial Management Class and will be revising library policy manual.

Due to weather, the bushes will be replaced next spring.

 

New Business –

Discussed having McDowells measure and install blinds in the board room.  Motion by Salger, 2nd by Upmeyer.

 

Director’s Report –

Virginia reported that the library has joined the EDGE project which is provided by the State Library.  She has completed the assessment and will proceed with the next step. 

The Spanish class has been meeting on Mondays which is bringing in their mothers and siblings to enjoy the library.

The benches in memory of Monica have been installed and seem to be used on a regular basis. 

Duffy Hudson will portray Houdini on Nov. 6, 2018 beginning at 6:30 p.m.  The program will be suitable for children as well as adults.
